Vintage Finds: St. Louis, MO

02.21.2012

Every time I head home to St. Louis I stop in at my favorite second hand store on Manchester Road. I am almost hesitant to share the name of this secret gem for fear that my stash of dreamy clip on earrings and art deco rings would be depleted overnight.

You know in Vogue’s annual age issue how they break down looks into age ranges, I have always found myself drawn to the style and accessories of the 60′s age range. I love a big beautiful piece of statement jewelry. Nothing is more glamorous then a well thought out accessory placement. Not many girls our age (20′s) do accessories right. They often wear a million pieces at once in an attempt to look interesting/eclectic/artsy or wear a simple small chain necklace with an initial/cross/symbol. It’s so dull. A unique vintage piece can make any outfit stand out.

Costume jewelry espcecally clip ons are coming back in style. Just look at how successful Prada’s spring collection of inspired floral costume pieces it’s been in every single magazine issue since January! The clip on earrings below cost me $6 dollars and I can wear the gold with anything that does not have a print on it (I hate most prints).

The purple clip ons cost me $7 dollars and I am looking forward to wearing them on a night out with a sheer black button up shirt or grey shift dress.

I feel so lucky to have found this necklace. It reminds me alot of what House of Harlow is producing at the moment. Old world and a bit edgy. I wore this out on Valentines day with a low cut coral silk tank top with cream trim dark jeans and a wrap around leather coat. The necklace only cost me $15 .

I highly encourage you to check out second hand shops where you live except if you reside in LA, NYC or a trendy area of London as you will be royally riped off price wise. Go to a small town or check for local estate sales, especially if you like ‘grandmaish’ styles like I do.
