Sydney Louis Vuitton Store: Native Australian Animal Visitors

12.06.2011

Earlier this year Louis Vuitton commissioned British artist Billie Achilleos to create a series of animal sculptures from the luxury brand’s coveted monogramed handbags and small leather goods. The results? An armadillo, grasshopper, chameleon and a beaver fashioned from items from Louis Vuitton’s small leather goods “Savoir Faire” collection including keyrings, purses, travel wallets and card holders.

The success of the partnership prompted Louis Vuitton to call on Achilleos once more, this time for an exclusive artistic collaboration celebrating this Friday’s official opening of the brand’s new George Street, Sydney “Maison”.

Native Australian animals including the kangaroo (complete with a baby roo tucked into the mother’s pouch), the koala bear and the crocodile received the Louis Vuitton treatment, fashioned entirely from the label’s handbags and accessories. The three original Australian animals will be exhibited at the new store alongside more than 20 of Achilleos’ other leather animals, previously on display at Louis Vuitton’s New Bond Street, London and Deyrolles, Paris stores.

Check out a behind-the-scenes video from the earlier collaboration and a sneak peek at Achilleos’ sketches for the exlusive Australian designs below.
