The Look: Big Pageant Curls

Pageant curls are not just for beauty queens any longer! In honor of the Miss America Pageant on Saturday, I thought I would highlight this trend that I have been loving since I was 10 when I used watch my sister compete in beauty pageants. Now stars like Hilary Duff, Jennifer Lopez, and Carrie Underwood have been seen rocking versions of this big hairstyle.

Why We Love It: Curls are feminine and face framing. For me personally, my head is a bit small for my body so adding some volume with some curls really helps to keep me in proportion.

You can achieve this look with curlers, a curling iron, or with a GHD (this can be tricky so be sure to practice making curls with a flat iron or have your hair stylist show you how).

Oh pageantry – how I miss you! Even though I no longer compete, I still enjoy curling my hair for a fun night out.

The last Miss America Pageant I went to was with PDS’s own fashion editor and my best mate Heather in 2009. Enjoy the dramatic crowning – I still get chills when I watch.
