Little Adventure: Nashville

04.27.2012

If you have never been to Nashville before, hop in your car (or a plane for you Aussies) and spend a weekend in one of my favorite American cities. I have been fortunate to spend a lot of time in “Nash Vegas” over the years (sister went to Vandy and times I spent preparing for pageants there …yes, pageants). Nashville has a small country town feel but with a kickin city center with great bars and restaurants.

We started our little adventure to Nashville by driving straight to what I think has the best burgers in the US, Rotiers. This place is a freakin institution! I remember my first burger there when I was 11 years old with my dad and the burgers still taste as good today. Maybe its fact that the grill has been the same since the 1950′s? Gotta love burgers with 60 years of grease under their belts!

We then headed to music row for some great live music at The Stage and the The Big Bang. Even if you walk music row during the day, these honky tonks will have live musicians playing. It is incredible. Broadway is also lined with cowboy boot shops, old fashioned ice cream parlors, and Elvis themed statues and pop up stands (hence the picture of “Houndogs”). We were even lucky enough to be in Nashville over the 4th of July to catch the fireworks display while eating a corn dog and drinking a miller lite. True Americana.

Last stop on our Nashville trip – good ole Gigi’s cupcakes on the ride out of town. Heather and I both agree, this place makes the best frosting for cupcakes in the midwest. A sweet way to end our Tennessee trip.
