When I was young, my best friend Lauren’s mom would always wear hot pink lipstick and I remember thinking, “There is no way I could ever pull that off. That is barbie pink!”. Well Betsy M, I have now joined the hot pink lip club.

 

A great alternative to the ever popular deep red lip, a hot pink hue is flirty and fun but can still look dramatic and sexy. Here are some easy steps on how to apply your bright pink lip shade to your smackers:

 

Exfoliate your lips: Okay, before you even begin your make up, use a salt scrub or face scrub and get rid of the dead skin on your lips. You don’t need to scrub super hard but when you are wearing a bright color on your lips, always be sure that there is no visible dead skin otherwise your lips will look crusty. Pop on some Paw Paw Ointment or lip balm to keep lips hydrated.

 

Create a neutral palate: I love Fergie’s make up here because the focal point goes directly to her lips. Keep the rest of the face neutral with golden soft hues on the eyes with a lot of mascara. Light rosy cheeks will compliment well. Don’t go overboard on the eyeliner and shadow. Keep it simple to accentuate your pinky pout.

 

Concealer: This may take some practice. Lightly take some concealer and blend in around your lips. Don’t use too much (it shouldn’t look white or anything). This will help keep the color on your lips and not running all over your face. Also, be sure that your “lady moustache” is waxed and clean. You don’t want the lip color to showcase a few dark hairs.

 

Lip Liner: This is optional, but if you want to really make them pop I would go this route. Lightly line your lips in pink liner. Again, totally optional but if you feel confidant, go for it.

 

Lip Color: Either with a lip brush, lip stick, or lip wand – apply color directly to lips. If you are using a more matte lipstick, add a high sheen clear gloss over the lip to complete your look.
