Favorite Old Movies

05.10.2010

Here are my absolute favorite old movies for the charm, beautiful costumes, intricate sets and overall entertainment factor.  I have watched them so many times I could even sing all the songs for you, but instead I just put up a few pictures.

Rent them over a cold winters day in Australia or a hot summer night in the States. Probably best if you don’t make a boy watch with you…he will hate it or fall asleep. Girls only night.

The King and I – This movie made me go to Thailand. I love Yul Brynner, he won an Oscar for his role in this movie. The costumes and set design don’t get much better than this. I have always wanted a hoop skirt like Anna’s and I might even whistle under the right circumstances.

Cleopatra staring the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.  Why don’t they make movies like this anymore?

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is my favorite Marilyn Monroe movie and I own all of them.  I love the musical number with Jane Russel and the Olympic team…very ridiculous please watch it on youtube.

Debbie Reynolds is the real deal, this lady can sing, dance and act up a storm. I am surprised more people have not seen The Unsinkable Molly Brown. The sets and costumes are wonderful. I love that Molly is best friend’s with a Prince and Duchess.

How to Marry A Millionaire. The cutest movie about three models renting an expensive apartment in New York in the hope of finding rich husbands. Marilyn’s pink dress in the restaurant scene is to die for.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, my favorite musical of all time. I don’t even fast forward the singing! Favorite number- June Brides. The best dance number of all time… The Barn Raising – if you don’t believe me watch the video on youtube.

Singin in the rain. Love the number where all the girls model ridiculous outfits. Love Lina Lamont and her crazy voice. I had the biggest crush on Gene. Crazy tap dancers!
