Beauty Trend: The Accent Nail

The Accent Nail

The Trend: Having one or more of your nails painted a different color, with an added sparkle, or decoration. Most commonly donned on one of your ring fingers.

When I went to the Australian Beauty Bloggers Weekend (ABBW) a couple weeks back, I saw SO many girls sporting this trend. Finally, I asked the 10th girl I saw with a mint green painted ring finger “what is the deal with all of these girls having one finger painted a different color?” and she said very sweetly “It’s the accent nail!”. So, this past weekend, I decided to try it out when I attended the High Tea at the Shangri La in Sydney.

First and foremost, I think I definitely picked the wrong color combo. I picked a peachy red and a minty green and all weekend my left hand looked like Christmas. I think I probably should have gone with a sparkly red or gone with the mint green as a base and another color for the accent nail.

Secondly, I have received really mixed reviews the past couple of days. My sister literally saw my hand (via Skype) and said, “Ash, you have gum stuck to your fingers” – No sis, it is my accent nail. My work colleague today said “Oh, were you testing a green color on your nails this weekend?” – No Sally, it is my accent nail. Some people however thought it was funky and cute. My friend Jess said she really liked it and so did some mates from the gym.

Despite the fact that I made a terrible choice for the color combo, I don’t think this trend fits my personality. My personal style tends to be more classic. I do however think this trend can be cute on some people and is a fun way to spice up your nails but only if it fits your personal style and overall look.

What do you think? Is this a trend that you would try? What would be your color combination?

  1. I LOVE IT!

  2. I’ve done black nails with a gold accent nail before. It makes me feel like I have the Midas touch!
