Not again….

06.15.2011

My good friend Kim sent me this picture of Kate Middleton last week because let’s be honest, she is blowing this Duchess thing out of the water and we all secretly want to be her. When I got this email from Kim, my exact response was, “Can she stop wearing her hair down all the time? It bothers me! She does look beautiful though. Adore the dress. But – why don’t I like her hair?”. Then when Heather wrote me an email yesterday about Kate’s hairstyle choices, I knew this topic was worth talking about.

Since last year when she was first purposed to, she has been sporting the same “perfect princess” make up and hairstyle for pretty much every event (except for some of the ones where she wears funny hats). In a small way I can kind of relate to falling into bad habits like this (after Miss Missouri, it took me 2 months to stop doing my make up and hair pageant style). This is such a great lesson for us regular girls – DON’T BE AFRAID TO CHANGE IT UP. I have a friend who has literally worn the same make up and hairstyle since we were in high school. No matter the occasion (black tie, gym, beach, or VIP), her hair and make up never change. Kate has been wearing this minimal make up and hair down with black tie attire for years and I just don’t get it.

As with clothing, your make up and hair should be appropriate for the event or function you are attending. In the picture above with Prince William, I wish Kate had opted for a beautiful up do, less pink on the cheeks, and a bit more drama in the eyes. The soft pink dress is a 10 for sure, but her hair and make up ruin it for me.

Part of the fun of loving all things fashion and beauty is looking the part from head to toe. Don’t make the same mistakes as our number 1 princess (we still adore you Catherine). Choices like how your hair and make up compliment your outfit will bring your overall look to the next level.
