Dear Kate,

 

First off, I am so excited that you will be taking the plunge and chopping your hair! I did this a year ago and it was a liberating experience (as you remember, I chopped off 10 inches!). Here are some guidelines I would follow before making the big chop:

 

Have a think: Cutting your hair short is a big deal especially if you have extremely long hair. I would take a couple of weeks to think about what you want to have done and if short hair is really right for you.

 

Know your face shape: Kate, you most definitely have a heart shaped face (think Reese Witherspoon) so you are going to want some bangs. This will help keep your face balanced. If bangs aren’t your thing, totally cool. Bangs are just great for giving hair instant style and movement.

 

Bring photos to your hairstylist: I have included some looks that I think would look great on you, but bring in pictures of hairstyles you like to your hairstylist. This will really help him/her see exactly what you want before the big chop.

   This is so great Ash, and you are spot on! I opted for this kind of style, because my hair is quite thick and naturally curly, so I thought this would be the closest to what I could expect –
